Few people stop to think about where their fuel comes from. Most people stop at a gas station, pump their fuel, and go on their merry ways, never thinking that their fuel ever was anywhere except at their fuel station, waiting for them to come pick it up. In reality, it’s much more complicated than that. Workers will go out to sea on oil drilling rigs, giving up their family life and often risking thier health to pump the oil we take for granted. There are also oil fields on land where machines are used to continuously pump oil out of the ground. These machines took time, money, and energy to be installed. The oil must later be refined, processed, and shipped to gas stations across the country, and often from one continent to the next. It’s a lot of work, and it isn’t overnight. One thing is for sure: it’s a good thing we have the oil drill rig to do this work, or else the way of life we have would be drastically different.
